* In 1967 the Exotic Shorthair became a recognized breed by the Cat Fanciers Association.
* In 1979 the Exotic shorthair was recognized by the International Cat Assocoation.
How did the Exotic Shothair come about?
The American Shorthair is a cross between a Persian and an American Shorthair giving them a meld of both breed's characteristics i.e. the flatter face and thick shorter coat.

Hair-While Exotic Shorthair cats have less problems with fur tangling and matting than Persians they still need and enjoy a being brushed at 2-3 times a week.
Eye Care- As a result of being Brachycephalic (flat faced), and frequently have under-developed tear ducts the Exotic Shorthair will likely need to have their eyes cleaned at least once a day to prevent staining under the eyes and the possibility of an infection. It is not difficult, simply use soft cotton pad and lightly dampen with either warm water or what I prefer to use is Bio True contact Lens solution for its more gentle PH balance.
Nails- Getting your cat use to monthly nail trimming imakes everyones life easier! (declawing is not recommended)
